In which Jen Savage hopes you also love the ocean!

Hey, Sluggies! You love the beach, right? So does Humboldt Surfider. Find out what's going on locally when Surfrider Foundation's Humboldt Chapter meets at Humboldt Brews, Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. (Get there on time to get in on the beer!)

And then join Ocean Conservancy, Humboldt Surfrider and Humboldt Baykeeper for Ocean Night, Thursday, Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Arcata Theatre Lounge.

Movies start at 7 p.m. and include The Van Duzen Watershed Project, conceived by Sal Steinberg and Paul Trichilo in 2005. In an effort to learn more about local streams, a monitoring program was developed and a three-year project was funded to quantify water quality, salmon habitat and upslope conditions. Rounding out the night is the "Staycation Surfari Epic on Zero Dollars" surf flick Stoked and Broke. Making their own boards, bamboo rickshaws, solar cookers, and hobo stoves, surfers Ryan Burch and Cyrus Sutton set off on a 30-mile, eight-day walk through San Diego. But what begins as a guide to taking a minimalist surfing journey quickly becomes an examination of freedom vs. alienation.

See you there!

Love,

Jen Savage

(Disclosure: Not just your weekend afternoon DJ chick -- also Ocean Conservancy's North Coast Program Coordinator and Humboldt Surfrider chairperson!)
