Painful Courtney Love Concert (6/27/10)

According to the Washington Post's David Malitz:

"...this was an astonishingly awful performance that had few moments of redeeming musical value. Song titles, lyrics, guitar chords - Love remembered only some of them, and infrequently. Then again, what was really the best-case musical scenario? A competent recreation of songs more than a decade old, played by Love and her latest hired hands? Is that what people wanted to see - Courtney karaoke versions of '90s MTV buzz clips? Maybe. But probably not. Perhaps a bit more professionalism would have been nice but in 2010 you pay your $45 hoping for the Courtney Love Experience. And Sunday night was an experience like no other."

LIVE: Watch The BP Spillcam

6/23/10 4:15pm

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Engineers had to completely uncap the broken oil well spewing into the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday after an undersea robot bumped into machinery being used to collect the spilled fuel. Hundreds of thousands of gallons more poured into the water as crews scrambled to replace a critical component.

The mishap left nothing to stem the flow of oil at its source. A camera recording the well showed huge clouds of black fluid coming out of the sea floor. It was not clear how long workers would need to replace the cap, which took weeks to install.

Bob Dudley, the managing director of BP who is taking over the spill response, said engineers expected to replace the cap in less than a day.

Orly Taitz Pancake Painter

Pancake painter Dan Lacey's artwork enraged one of his portrait subjects, Laguna Niguel's Dr. Orly Taitz. The birther activist, dentist and failed Secretary of State candidate last month asked a judge to help her to force Lacey to disclose who's been paying him to paint pancake-Taitz.

Humboldt Roller Derby, Saplings-style!

Humboldt County just took another big step into the world of girls' athletics. Thanks to the all-around amazing women of Humboldt Roller Derby, the thrills and challenges of derby have been made available to local girls, ages 11-17. The second session of the Saplings recently culminated in a "Friends & Family" bout. Both sides took some lumps, skated hard and worked together – the cheering never stopped! Ultimately the pink team accumulated more points than the blue team, but without doubt, every young derby girl rolled away a winner.

Check out a small glimpse into the Saplings world, including jammer Preditori, interviewed during KSLG's live broadcast of the May 15 Redwood Rollers bout:

Next bout, July 24! KSLG will be there and you should, too!
